Bush White House, Corrupt Throughout

As I sit here this evening and read the latest headlines of President George W. Bush appointee, Attorney General Michael Mukasey, refusing to investigate two other Bush appointees, all I see is corruption.

"Mukasey said White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former presidential counsel Harriet Miers committed no crime."

Granted this may very well be the truth in this instance, I still can't help but reflect through the last seven years and see a trend that indicates valid reasons to suspect underlying corruption from top to bottom in this administration.

Here are some reasons in no particular order:

• Scooter Libby - Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff - resigned after being indicted for Obstruction of Justice, Perjury, and Making False Statements in connection with the investigation stemming from the leak of a CIA operative's identity.

• Linda Chavez - nominated, Secretary of Labor - withdrew her nomination amidst revelations that an illegal immigrant lived in her home and worked for her.
  

1. Alberto Gonzalez - Role in firing U.S. Attorneys.

• Alberto Gonzalez - "I don't recall" testimony before congress.

• Christie Whitman - EPA - Forced resignation.

• Firing Of U.S. Attorneys.

• Michael Brown - FEMA - Botched handling of Katrina.

• Michael Brown - FEMA - Padded, falsified resume'.

• Iraq - Falsified intel.

• Blackwater - Illegal activities in Iraq.

• Blackwater - Questionable tactics and ties to government officials.

• John D. Ashcroft - Hospital persuasion to reauthorize wiretapping order.

• Valerie Plame - Outed undercover CIA agent.
  

• Censoring of science regarding global climate change.

• Karl Rove - Role in outing Valerie Plame.

• Dick Cheney - Role in outing Valerie Plame.

• Dick Cheney - Suppressed info from hunting shooting.

• Dick Cheney - Haliburton

• Abu Ghraib Prison Torture

• The Patriot Act - Citizen surveillance under guise of protection.

• Waterboarding - The use of torture when interrogating prisoners.

• Misuse of the Terror Alert System.

• The Military Commissions Act removing Habeas Corpus.

In reality, every item I've listed here could be complemented by two more I have missed.

There has been resignation after resignation, scandal after scandal and apparent lie after lie. If the evidence is readily available, hopefully after he leaves the White House, charges of Treason will be pursued, though I am sure this is too much to ask.

In all reality every President is accused of some corruption and misdeeds, but this administration seems to overachieve in illegal activities. Additionally, almost every voter I know who supported President Bush in the elections has lost confidence in his leadership and more often than not, they are regretting giving the man a vote.

His reign will be over soon, but not soon enough.

How will history remember our dear President? Certainly in the top two administrations regarding pervasive corruption.... but first or second place is yet to be seen, we still have 10 months of illegal activity to go.
