Despite some of the comments we're receiving on other posts lately, Mike Huckabee really does a bang up job of causing a lot of heartburn around here. This is because Mr. Huckabee seems incapable of abiding by our Constitution and that whole pesky Freedom of Religion thing.
Now, now, I know no where in the Constitution was 'separation of Church and state' mentioned but come on, read a little American history, Mr. Huckabee. While we might be a nation with a Christian majority we are NOT a Christian nation.
Mike Huckabee, a Republican relying on support from religious conservatives in Thursday's hard-fought presidential caucuses, on Sunday stood by a decade-old comment in which he said, "I hope we answer the alarm clock and take this nation back for Christ."

Take this nation back from whom? Those who wish to follow the Constitution and protect people's rights to live their lives without fear of religious reprisal from a Christian majority? Of course, Huckabee insists he wouldn't treat anybody differently based on their faith.
He also argued that his emphasis on his Christian beliefs does not mean he's alienating atheists. He said, if elected, he would have no problem appointing atheists to government posts.I don't buy it for one second. Given his stances on various issues, Mr. Huckabee filters everything through the Christian filter. Would he appoint a homosexual to government posts since he feels that:
"I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural, and sinful lifestyle, and we now know it can pose a dangerous public health risk."He is against gay marriage. He is also against domestic partner rights, something which would effect hetero as well as homosexual couples. He feels AIDS patients should be isolated from the rest of the population. He has stated that he feels wives should be subservient to their husbands:
He gave the speech the same year he endorsed the Baptist convention's statement of beliefs on marriage that "a wife is to submit graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ." Huckabee and his wife, Janet, signed a full-page ad in USA Today in support of the statement with 129 other evangelical leaders.
Mr. Huckabee is incapable of being a good president. For him, religion and politics are very snuggly bedfellows. He's using the pulpit to preach his religion and he's ignoring the fact that freedom of religion also means freedom from religion.
This post also addresses separation of church and state

While this country may have a christian majority, the Bill of Rights was designed to guarantee individual rights. The founding fathers understood that majority rules in a democracy, but that does not necessarily mean the the majority is right. They specifically designed our government to give a voice to the people - ALL of the people.
Mr. Huckabee is not someone who considers all of the citizens when making decisions. We do not need Bush III.
I second JCE's comment.
If this country by chance changed to a Islamic majority the Christians would be SCREAMING for an absolute separation of church and state. It is only because their mythology is in favor right now do they feel a blurring of the wall is okay.
hear hear! I think I heard that somewhere once from someone very wise....
BGH - exactly! I can't fathom why those in favor of removing the separation can't see that it was put in place for THEIR protection.
Huckabye? Huckabee wants to have adulterers, homosexuals and rape victims stoned to death. He also wants to make alcohol and music videos illegal, and make women 2nd class citizens and to take all girls out of school.
Oops, my bad, that's another 'religion'.
